Dubai's laws are more relaxed than neighbouring emirates, but public kissing and embracing can result in a fine or detention. This applies to all couples regardless of nationality.

Ramadan transforms the city completely. Eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight hours is prohibited. Some visitors find the atmosphere during Ramadan evenings — after iftar — one of the most interesting times to visit.
