Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Skyplus ("we", "our", "us") is an independent aviation and travel publication available at skyplus.news. This policy explains how we collect and use your personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

2. What data we collect

• Newsletter subscribers — email address only, collected via explicit opt-in. Your address is stored as unconfirmed until you click the confirmation link we send you.
• Analytics — we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the Site is used (pages viewed, device type, approximate location, referring site). Google Analytics sets cookies and processes your IP address, and only loads after you accept cookies; we do not use it to identify you personally. If you don’t accept cookies, we still record an anonymous page view (the page address and title only, with no cookie, identifier or IP address), which our server passes to Google Analytics so we can count visits.
• Our own visit statistics — for every visit, with or without cookies, our server keeps a simple record of each page view: the page address, the website you came from (its domain only), a country worked out from your device’s time-zone setting, your device type (phone, tablet or computer), whether you scrolled or tapped the page, and whether the visit looks automated (a bot). We store no IP address, cookie or identifier, nothing is saved on your device, and we can’t link page views to each other or to you. Records are deleted after 180 days and are never shared.
• Data stored only in your browser — features such as the My Trip planner and the daily aircraft quiz streak save their data in your browser’s localStorage. This data is never sent to us, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
• Embedded third-party content — maps are provided by Google Maps; videos are provided by YouTube (loaded only when you click play, using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode); many photos are loaded directly from Wikimedia Commons. These providers receive your IP address when their content loads, under their own privacy policies.
• Advertising — Google AdSense may set cookies for personalised advertising. You control this via our cookie consent banner.
• Affiliate links — we work with Travelpayouts, which may turn some travel links into affiliate links and set cookies to credit a booking to us. Third-party experience booking providers may also set cookies when you interact with their widgets. These only load after you accept cookies.

3. Legal basis for processing

• Newsletter: Consent — you explicitly opt in
• Analytics: Consent — via our cookie consent banner
• Our own anonymous visit statistics: Legitimate interest in knowing which pages are read and how much traffic is automated. No personal data, cookies or IPs are involved.
• Advertising & affiliate cookies: Consent — via our cookie consent banner

4. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your data, and to object to processing. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@skyplus.news. We will respond within 30 days.

5. Data retention

Newsletter email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe. Unconfirmed addresses are automatically deleted after 30 days.

6. Third parties

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers described in this policy — Google (Analytics, AdSense, Maps, YouTube), Wikimedia (images), our email provider for the newsletter, and affiliate partners such as Travelpayouts where you accept their cookies — or where required by law. Each operates under its own privacy policy.
