Inside Heathrow Approach: An Hour With the Controllers Running Europe's Busiest Airspace
The NATS radar room at Swanwick doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside, 24 controllers are managing 1,400 daily movements into Heathrow alone โ and doing it in a building that looks, from the visitor gallery, like a very serious version of a call centre.
This documentary, produced with full NATS cooperation, is the most detailed look inside UK air traffic control that's been made available publicly. The controllers on camera are doing real work, with real aircraft, with real consequences. What comes through most clearly isn't the technology โ it's the institutional knowledge. The way a controller knows, from the call sign and the squawk, exactly where an aircraft is in its approach sequence without looking twice.
