Delta Doubles Down on Tech for Smoother Summer Travel
Delta Doubles Down on Tech for Smoother Summer Travel Delta's making a major push for smoother summer travel, pouring significant investment into technology and loyalty perks. Passengers, the airline says, will find new app features, expanded onboard entertainment, and smarter tools right at their fingertips.

Your Phone, Your Flight: Delta's Summer Tech Overhaul
Delta Air Lines is making a bold play for smoother summer travel, putting more control directly into passengers' hands. The airline's betting big on digital upgrades and its SkyMiles loyalty program, rolling out a series of service enhancements from check-in to touchdown.
The journey begins, as so many now do, with your phone. Delta's app isn't just a convenience anymore; it's a full-blown travel command center. In fact, more than 97% of its top-tier Medallion members relied on it last year, reporting higher satisfaction. Now, basics like check-in are streamlined, with expedited App Bag Drop lanes available at 20 airports, including all Delta hubs. International flyers? They'll find a real perk: the ability to scan and save passports or upload residency cards directly, cutting down airport time and making destination entry requirements far less of a headache.
What about before security? Touchless ID is expanding fast, now accessible at over 60 airports. SkyMiles members can simply breeze through bag drop and security, no need to fumble for a physical ID. All it takes is a scanned passport and a Known Traveler Number linked to their app profile.
Sometimes, travel simply doesn't go as planned โ and honestly, it won't always. When that happens, Delta's stepping up its game. This summer brings the new AI-powered Delta Concierge, exclusive to SkyMiles members, acting as an in-app assistant. It'll answer your trip questions, confirm status, cancel flights, and even suggest alternatives during disruptions. Already, passengers can rebook eligible flights (including to nearby airports) or list themselves standby for earlier departures directly through the app. Expect even more flexibility this summer, with expanded standby options to select nearby locations.
What happens once you're in the air? Delta hasn't forgotten about that. Over 1,200 aircraft now boast free, fast Wi-Fi from T-Mobile, powering the Delta Sync onboard digital experience. On 475 jets, Delta Sync comes alive via Wi-Fi or seatback screens, delivering personalized entertainment, real-time trip updates, and access to partners like FOX One (hello, FIFA World Cup 2026 in 4K!), Paramount+, and The New York Times. Plus, that 24-hour access continues even after landing. And if you're thirsty or hungry? Nearly 600 daily flights over 350 miles in Comfort and Main cabins now offer full snack and beverage service, including those fan-favorite Biscoff cookies and Cheez-It crackers.
Finally, arriving and connecting is also getting an overhaul. The app now tracks checked bags with remarkable precision; Delta says over 99% arrive with their owners. Planning an international connection? Travelers from Seoul through Atlanta, Minneapolis, or Detroit (with Los Angeles and Seattle soon to follow) can now bypass re-checking bags entirely, saving up to 25 minutes. Even better, London Heathrow connections through Atlanta get to skip redundant TSA screenings, shaving off up to 45 minutes. And SkyMiles perks don't stop at the tarmac: link your account with Uber to earn miles on eligible rides, bringing that next getaway even closer.
