Delta's Global Outreach: More Than Just Flights, It's Community Heartbeat
Thousands of Delta employees and customers just wrapped their Global Volunteer Month, and it wasn't just about flights. Across local communities, they put in the work, from planting trees to, in some critical cases, saving lives.

Delta Air Lines wrapped its third annual Global Volunteer Month in April, marking a significant commitment to communities worldwide. More than just flights, the initiative saw the carrier demonstrate its local impact, reinforcing its deep connection to the places it serves.
For the first time, Delta’s customers joined its employees. Over 100 SkyMiles Members volunteered alongside the dedicated workforce, expanding nationwide efforts directly to the people the airline flies daily. It’s a potent way to reinforce loyalty, building shared purpose beyond the cabin.
This April, Delta mobilized upwards of 8,000 employees across more than 40 cities. They partnered with over 150 nonprofit organizations, collectively logging 15,000 hours of service globally during the month.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian emphasized the collective pride, highlighting that giving back remains a core tenet of the airline’s mission to connect the world. Delta's people, he noted, consistently step up, driven by a genuine spirit and living the company's values to create lasting, positive change.
What did all those hours actually achieve? Volunteers planted more than 700 trees, working to improve air quality and foster healthier urban environments. Thousands of pounds of food were sorted and packed, translating into nearly 30,000 meals for families struggling with food insecurity. New playgrounds sprang up and vibrant murals took shape, crafting safer, more inviting spaces for children to play.
The airline’s commitment also stretched to the future. Mentors guided young people, helping them prepare for careers. In a critical effort, employees and customers donated over 1,580 pints of blood at drives nationwide, a contribution that could potentially save nearly 5,000 lives.
Such dedication hasn't gone unnoticed. Delta honored over 70 employee volunteers who, in 2025, contributed almost 3,000 hours of personal time to service. It's clear this isn't just a seasonal campaign; it’s a deeply ingrained cultural value.
Delta’s network is vast, spanning 290 destinations across six continents. Yet, its volunteerism remains pointedly local, tailored to address specific community needs in education, sustainability, and health. This isn’t a fleeting effort for Delta. Its engagement with hundreds of nonprofit partners continues year-round, built on the conviction that connecting people means actively uplifting every community that ties us all together.
