Tunisair Lands a Dreamliner: Neos 787 Joins the Fleet

Tunisair just landed a major upgrade for its long-haul operations. As of Saturday, March 9th, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from Italian leisure airline Neos has joined the Tunisian flag carrier's fleet. It's a comprehensive Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance (ACMI) lease, set for an undisclosed period, promising a significant boost to Tunisair's intercontinental reach.

The aircraft itself, registered EI-XIN, isn't just any Dreamliner. It’s one of Neos' six Boeing 787-9s, configured W35Y309. That's 35 premium seats – think Business or Premium Economy – alongside 309 standard Economy seats. For Tunisair, this means a serious bump in passenger capacity and a much-improved onboard experience, particularly welcome on its growing intercontinental routes.

Why lease it out? For Neos, it's about smart asset management. This ACMI deal lets them deploy aircraft strategically, especially when demand fluctuates or other carriers need specific support. Tunisair, on the other hand, gets immediate access to a modern, fuel-efficient wide-body. It’s a huge win: a cutting-edge jet without the massive capital outlay and long-term commitment of buying or a traditional dry lease. That flexibility is key for expanding into new markets, upping frequencies on busy routes, or just covering temporary capacity needs.

Speed was clearly a priority here. EI-XIN’s transfer flight from Verona, reportedly just days before its official operational start, departed at 6:01 PM local time "the day before yesterday," according to early Italian reports. It shows both airlines were ready to hit the ground running, integrating the Dreamliner into Tunisair's schedule with surprising efficiency and minimal fuss for passengers.

For passengers, this isn't just a new plane; it's a leap in comfort. They'll now get the Dreamliner's advanced amenities, that noticeably quieter cabin, and better air quality – all designed to make long-haul travel genuinely more pleasant. Beyond the comfort, this deal highlights a bigger trend: ACMI leases are building bridges, fostering stronger operational links between European and North African carriers. And for Tunisair, it's a smart, rapid move to expand its international reach and stay competitive in a constantly shifting market.
