Getting To & From Cta

Catania-Fontanarossa Airport is located about 4-6 kilometers southwest of the city center. The Alibus shuttle service connects the airport to Catania Central Station about every 20 to 25 minutes, with a ticket costing €4.00 ($4.50). Taxis and major rental car providers are readily available outside the arrivals area. Additionally, the Fontanarossa railway stop is linked to the airport by a dedicated AMTS shuttle bus running roughly every 10 minutes for a nominal €1.00 fare.

Terminals & Getting Around

Terminals

Catania Airport features two passenger facilities: Terminal A and Terminal C. Terminal A handles the vast majority of network carriers and international/domestic flights. Terminal C is smaller and, according to published guides, is used by easyJet. Check your boarding pass for your terminal. The two buildings sit adjacent to each other, allowing passengers to walk between them in under two minutes.

Hours of Operation

The airport is not strictly a 24-hour facility in terms of all passenger amenities closing overnight, though the terminal building remains accessible. Operational hours generally align with the daily flight schedule, starting early in the morning before the first departures.

Know Before You Go

Practical Tips

  • Terminal C is significantly more compact with fewer amenities; if you are flying from Terminal C, stock up on essentials or use lounge facilities near Terminal A beforehand if eligible.
  • Because Catania handles heavy seasonal tourist traffic to Sicily, allow extra time during peak holiday months for check-in and security queues.
  • Keep a close eye on your boarding pass and airport monitors, as gate changes can occur at short notice during busy operational peaks.

Comfort

Lounges

Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) offers a single primary independent lounge space, the VIP Lounge 'Angelo D'Arrigo' (formerly known as the Bellini Lounge). Located airside in Terminal A on the third floor near gates 5 and 6, this renovated 400-square-meter facility accommodates over 200 guests and accepts Priority Pass and Mastercard Airport Experiences memberships alongside standard pay-per-use bookings. Amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, flight monitors, televisions, and runway views, though hot food options remain somewhat limited. Airline-specific proprietary lounges are otherwise unavailable at CTA.

Staying Online

Wi-Fi & Charging

Passengers transiting through Catania-Fontanarossa Airport can access complimentary wireless internet across the terminal via the official network, typically broadcast under the SSID CTA-Free-Wifi. While service is generally functional for basic web browsing and messaging, stability can fluctuate during peak afternoon and summer departure rushes. Public mobile device charging points and fixed power stations are distributed throughout the terminal areas, though availability near standard seating blocks can be scarce during high-traffic intervals.

Eat & Drink

Food & Dining

Terminal A handles the vast majority of food and beverage outlets at CTA. Public landside zones feature a McDonald's departures location alongside quick-service cafes like Bontà and Café's, which specialize in espresso, pastries, and basic sandwiches. Post-security airside options are more streamlined but feature regional flair, highlighted by snack spots like Sfizio and outlets serving local Sicilian street foods, arancini, and regional confectionery. Sit-down fine dining options inside the secure zone are extremely limited.

Driving In

Parking

Catania-Fontanarossa Airport operates several official, on-site parking options managed directly by S.A.C. (Società Aeroporto Catania) within walking distance of the terminal buildings. Short-term zones (such as P1, P2, P3, and P5) accommodate passenger drop-offs and pickups, charging around €2.00 for the first hour. For longer stays, P4 Low Cost Stay Parking serves as the primary budget-friendly official lot. Automatic pay stations accept cash, credit, and debit cards, and vehicles must exit within 10 minutes following payment validation.
