Frontier Is Finally Making Its Move on South America

Frontier is touching down in South America for the very first time—and it's starting from Orlando. Beginning December 2026, the budget carrier is launching three nonstop routes out of Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Medellín, Bogotá, and Cartagena. It's a direct shot across the bow at legacy airlines that have kept ticket prices on these routes high for years.

Tyri Squyres, Frontier’s vice president of public and consumer affairs, put it simply: there's massive, unmet demand for cheap seats between Central Florida and Colombia. Anyone who's paid top dollar for those flights lately knows a price war is long overdue.

The Routes, the Dates, and the $99 Catch

Medellín gets the first crack. Daily nonstops between MCO and José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) start on December 10, 2026, with teaser fares kicking off at $169 one-way.

Four days later, on December 14, flights turn toward Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport (BOG). That service runs six times a week before ramping up to full daily service on March 6, 2027. Catch the promo window, and one-way tickets drop to $99.

Cartagena joins the schedule on December 19, with a single weekly Saturday flight into Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) starting at $129 one-way. All three international routes still need final government approval, so departure times could shift a bit before launch.

Lance Lyttle, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, welcomed the move. He noted that adding direct flights to Bogotá, Medellín, and Cartagena gives travelers real choices while strengthening Orlando's connections across South America.

How to Lock In Those Low Rates

Don't count on those promo fares hanging around indefinitely. To land the advertised $99 seat, you'll need to book by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on September 16, 2026.

There are strings attached, naturally. The bottom-dollar rates only cover select travel dates between January 14, 2027, and April 5, 2027. Spring break travelers lose out here—a strict blackout window shuts down deals from March 23 through March 30, 2027. Rates apply only to non-stop flights on specific days of the week, though you aren't forced to buy a round-trip ticket to lock in the savings.

What Flying Frontier Actually Looks Like These Days

This expansion comes right as the airline reshapes its cabin experience under an initiative called 'The New Frontier.' If it's been a while since you've stepped on one of their planes, they're slowly pivoting away from a strictly bare-bones setup toward tiered options.

Up front, that means UpFront Plus seating in the aircraft's first two rows, which guarantees an aisle or window seat, extra legroom, extra elbow room, and an empty middle seat. On top of that, dedicated First Class seating arrives in 2026 as the airline tries to pair low fares with actual room to stretch out.

Frequent flyers get some love, too. The updated Frontier Miles program sets Elite status at 10,000 points for 2026, unlocking priority boarding and complimentary checked bags depending on your tier. Top-tier members can take a different chosen companion on every single flight leg, while families get to pool their miles without paying extra fees.
