At the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, the network's flagship lounge at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) took top honours as the World's Best Airline Alliance Lounge for the third year running. It's a complete lockout for the Terminal 1 facility, which hasn't let go of the title since opening its doors in October 2023.

If you've spent any time dragging a carry-on through Europe's crowded hubs, this won't come as a shock. The CDG space built an immediate fanbase by swapping standard airport design for something that feels distinctly French, backed by a clever layout that actually works. Paris wasn't the group's only victory on the night. Across the Atlantic, Star Alliance's veteran lounge at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) picked up second place globally in the exact same category.

Known for an open-air terrace where passengers watch long-haul jets climb toward the Hollywood hills, that LAX space has set the bar for years. Claiming the top two spots on Earth reinforces a smart strategy: rather than letting individual member airlines operate competing, average spaces at shared airports, pool the cash into one standout facility.

For First and Business Class passengers—plus Star Alliance Gold cardholders—that shared approach serves up a tier of food, wine, and floor space no single carrier could justify on its own dime.

What You Actually Get Inside Terminal 1

Tucked inside CDG's Terminal 1, the winning 1,300-square-metre footprint holds roughly 300 guests. Floor-to-ceiling glass washes the room in natural light, though the real standout is an outdoor courtyard garden—a rare chance to grab fresh air before sealing yourself in a pressurized tube for ten hours.

Step further inside and the floor plan splits into dedicated spots for work, drinks, and downtime. You'll find a Welcome Bar poured with selected French wines and spirits, a proper barista station, and a buffet bridging local dishes with broader international options.
