Air Senegal just took delivery of a brand-new Boeing 737-800, turning its headline deal at the 2025 Dubai Airshow into hard metal on the tarmac. That order—nine Boeing 737 MAX and six 737NG aircraft—was always about scale, and CEO Tidiane Ndiaye isn't beating around the bush. He wants this plane tightening day-to-day operations, opening up new routes, and expanding the carrier's footprint across both regional and international skies.

Flying the Olympic Torch Home

Beyond standard passenger runs, this particular 737-800 has a higher-profile assignment. Wrapped in custom livery, it's acting as a sky-high banner for the Youth Olympic Games (JOJ) Dakar 2026—the first Olympic event ever hosted on African soil. Its headline mission comes before the opening ceremony: flying directly to Athens to retrieve the official Olympic flame and carry it back to Senegal.

Government Power Behind the Push

Dakar's political backing was crucial to getting the deal done, a point Ndiaye emphasized when framing the delivery as a sign of the state's faith in the airline. Founded in 2016 and flying out of Blaise Diagne International Airport since 2018, Air Senegal's goal hasn't shifted: it wants to be West Africa's leading carrier. With government capital and new aircraft arriving, the airline is pushing hard to secure national sovereignty while building real mobility across the continent.
