Frontier Cuts Diamond Status Threshold to 75,000 Points

Frontier Airlines just made its highest loyalty tier significantly easier to reach, slashing the requirement for top-tier Elite Diamond status by 25 percent—from 100,000 down to 75,000 Elite Status Points. Effective immediately, you won't need to practically live on a plane to land top perks. But there's a big catch. While the ceiling is lower, Frontier is completely changing how you earn those points, penalizing anyone buying bare-bones tickets while rolling out the red carpet for passengers who pay for bundles.

Easier to Hit, Harder to Cheap Out On

Hitting top-tier status on a budget carrier used to feel like a grueling endurance test. Lowering the Diamond bar to 75,000 points brings genuine benefits within realistic reach—think unlimited companion travel, preboarding, and two free 50-pound checked bags for every single person on your reservation. Meanwhile, the entry targets for Silver (15,000 points), Gold (25,000 points), and Platinum (50,000 points) stay right where they are through 2026. Entry-level access hasn't changed, but the ladder to the top got shorter.

That ladder, however, carries a heavy cover charge. Don't expect to coast to 75,000 points on bottom-dollar fares. Frontier built its revamped earning system specifically to starve cheap seats of status points while showering big spenders with fast-track status.

The Bundle Tax on Status

Starting September 1, 2026, your status progress hinges entirely on what kind of fare you buy. Book a basic, unbundled ticket, and standard members crawl along at a miserable 1 mile per dollar, with top-tier Diamond elites topping out at 11 miles per dollar. Tack on an Economy, Premium, or Business bundle, though, and the math changes completely. Base members instantly jump to 6 miles per dollar, while Elite Diamond flyers rake in 16 miles per dollar.

Holders of the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard get an even steeper shortcut. Cardmembers buying basic fares earn between 4x and 14x miles, but buying a bundle vaults those earnings to 12x for standard members and a massive 22x per dollar for Diamond members. Select cardholders making eligible purchases can stack an extra 5X miles and 1X Elite Status point per dollar spent. It's not a subtle nudge: Frontier is telling budget purists to prepare for a slog while bundle buyers breeze right past them.

Where the Loyalty Payoff Actually Lands in 2027

Longer term, a major overhaul of elite benefits takes effect on January 1, 2027. The headline move? Early seat upgrades into UpFront Plus or First Class seating across every tier—provided you bought an Economy or Premium bundle. Silver members get their shot four hours before departure, Gold at eight hours, Platinum at 18 hours, and Diamond elites a full 24 hours before takeoff.

It's part of a broader push to make the cabin far less punishing. The carrier previously announced Frontier Airlines adds SpaceX Starlink Wi-Fi for 2027 alongside new First Class seating, aiming to win over frequent travelers who usually avoid budget carriers.

Lower tiers grab plenty of extra perks under the 2027 rules, too. Silver elites buying an Economy bundle unlock free preferred seating upgrades, Group 4 boarding, family pooling, and priority customer care. Gold members gain free carry-ons, Group 1 boarding, and premium seating upgrades. Platinum status expands free carry-ons and premium seats to everyone on the booking, waives pet-in-cabin fees, bumps checked bag limits to 50 pounds per person, and delivers two companion travel certificates. To cap it off, Frontier plans to introduce Milestone Rewards in 2027, letting elites select custom perks as they hit specific benchmarks throughout the year.
